How to use this tool
Drop unwanted files or folders from a ZIP archive and download a trimmed copy.
Open the Remove Files from ZIP tool
Visit makemyzip.com/remove-from-zip. The archive is read into your browser; nothing uploads.
Drop a ZIP
Drag the archive onto the dropzone or click to pick one. The full file tree is rendered below.
Tick entries to remove
Expand folders and check the boxes next to files or whole folders you want gone. The summary row shows how much space the removal will free.
Pick a compression level
Choose Store, Fast, Normal, or Max for the trimmed output. Normal is the usual default.
Build the trimmed ZIP
Click Build. Kept entries are re-packed into a new ZIP and offered as a download. The original file on your disk is untouched.
Frequently asked questions
Does this edit the original ZIP in place?
No. The ZIP on your disk is never modified. The tool always produces a new trimmed copy, so the source file is safe even if you change your mind about a selection.
Can I remove a whole folder at once?
Yes. Ticking a folder checkbox selects every file beneath it. The indeterminate state shows when only some children of a folder are selected.
How much smaller will the trimmed ZIP be?
The summary row shows the uncompressed size that will be dropped. The final compressed output is usually proportionally smaller; exact savings depend on how well the removed files were already compressed.
Does it work on encrypted ZIPs?
No. Decrypt with Unlock ZIP first, then remove entries here. The tool only handles plain (unencrypted) ZIP archives.
